Background

As digital information continues to increases in quantity and form, how will technology continue to enhance the ability of humans to analyze and understand it?

My primary research interests address this challenge through combining techniques from visualization, human-computer interaction, statistics, machine learning, and data mining. In particular, I have developed a design space for user interactions for large display visual analytic systems called Semantic Interaction that utilizes machine learning techniques to combine the power of mathematical models with user-centered data exploration interactions. This research is made possible through the strong collaboration with the Bayesian Visual Analytics (BaVA) group, as well as the Discovery Analytics Center (DAC), both of which I am an active member of.
