VISUALIZATION OF MULTI DIMENSIONAL FUNCTIONS
FUTURE DIRECTIONS
I have an ambitious plan ahead of me. I feel that a number of engineering problems deal with complex functions and require cool visualization tools to visualize the functional space, understand it and explore the space to discover patterns. Some tools are present at the moment but are not effective enough to comprehend a multi-dimensional space. Hence my goal is to develop this visualization into a full fledged tool, for which a lot of work needs to be done.
Some stuff which I envision to do are as follows:
Support for mouse interaction in ways in which the user would prefer to understand the function.
Addition of zooming features to see a portion of the space and understand it in depth.
Applying the tool to two or three existing fields where such a tool would be of use such as bioinformatics.
Enable the tool to read from databases
The tool should also support visualization of raw data for which no predefined function has been defined.
Ultimately make the tool intuitive and realistic enough to understand the nature of the function by just looking at the visualization. For e.g. a user must be able to understand the behavior of any simple function whose pattern is well known or could be figured out by simple calculations.
